The Nineties 1

Dear Diary,

After reviewing all the to be expected DEATH, DESTRUCTION & DOOM plurks initiated by some questions regarding IP infringement of some of the designs featured at the latest round of Collabor88, I finally made my way to the event to check out what was going on there.  The theme of the event was the 1990′s and I now can’t help but wonder if we all looked this bad in the 90s???  I mean, if you had any sort of ASS or BODACIOUS TATA’s this was definately not the decade for you (I count myself among this group).  Perhaps that’s why I have absolute ZERO pictures of me from that ENTIRE decade.  Well I am exaggerating there but the ones I do have I look pretty scary.

The Nineties 4

Let’s take a look at exhibit A:  My avatar’s ass in a pair of Shortalls.  Yes, I admit, I did own a pair of these fashion gems and I guarantee you my ass looked as bad as Elle’s does right now, LOL.  I hardly remember any huge fashion trends from the 90s but when I saw these iconic items of the 1990′s created by Toast Bard of Fashionably Dead, the images came flooding back to me.  Talk about DOOM, DESTRUCTION & DEATH, my once attractive wardrobe of the late 80s were replaced with the decade of slouch of the 1990s.

The Nineties 3

Exhibit B – Well Hello, Blossom!  What can we say about this folks but….what the hell were we thinking in the 90s? Belly revealing tops combined with Hoe down looks screams 90s if I say so myself.   All that’s lacking to make this ensemble complete is a hat with a flower and I would be rockin’ a full on Mayim Bialik circa 1993.

The Nineties 2

Any who Diary, I am so glad that decade is over and not just for the fashion.  The 1990s were the decade that I became an adult and their were many hard times, and I am sure a few good.  Let’s just say I am glad I don’t remember much from back then because things are so much better now.  Take care Diary and I will talk to you soon.

Luncheon 2
Dear Diary,

It is so difficult being a nerd girl in Second Life these days. All these new “mesh” outfits are completely stressful for a chubby, oddly shaped avatar like myself. After being absent from Second Life for a couple of years, I come back and discover the fashion designers (and Linden Labs) have forced this concept of STANDARD SIZES upon us. Sadly I discovered my nerd figure is between two sizes – medium and large. Because of this I had two options when came to clothing: Gain weight or buy a pair of virtual Spanx. I chose the latter.

Luncheon 1

For the first time in my virtual existence, I pushed my squishy body into a set of these virtual torture devices just so I could venture out to a lunch on the lovely sim Leroy. Unfortunately, the Spanx made me feel so constricted and pinched, my desire to eat had left. So instead of enjoying the plethora of tarts and pastries offered to me, I just sat on a stump and stared at them. “Woe is me,” I thought to myself. “Perhaps I should set aside my vanity and just indulge myself in these wonders of dough till I fit perfectly into a large.” But….vanity got the best of me in the end.

Luncheon 3

When I returned home from the lunch I pushed myself out of the Spanx like toothpaste coming out of the tube, threw on a pair of texture shorts and a top, slipped my feet into my favorite plastic prim jellies from Fashionably Dead (circa 2007 or maybe even 2006) and ate an entire box of Twinkies till I could eat no more.  What a perfect ending to a less than perfect day.

Well that’s all I have for now Diary – so take care and wish me a great Second Life.

Inspiration for my photos seems to come in spurts. The most recent source of my creative juices flowing was the contest announced by Truth Hawks for a store poster contest.  In six plus years of being a part of the second life community I have never once competed in a photo contest.  So for me to be inspired by a contest was just….odd. But something about this contest got my mind a whirring which resulted in a new project I am titling the “The Many Meins of Elle.”  As an avid role player, I have become better and better about letting go of my idea of who Elle the avatar is (red haired, fair skinned) and instead have sought inspiration as to whom my character is.  Plus there are so many beautiful skins out now that how can one always be just one ethnicity???  As a whole, I am not overly invested in my avatar’s appearance but…I can’t help at times to feel disheartned/disappointed when I am told “Elle doesn’t look good in that skin” or “she was prettier before” and it’s about a skin I absolutely love! Now, this post isn’t about how beautiful my avatar is cause quite frankly it doesn’t take much to create a looker in SL. In a world where everyone is beautiful, sometimes it’s the uniqueness of your look or your writing or your personality that comes across in text that makes one stand out.  Any who, enough blah blah blah, here is what I have come up with so far pictorial wise regarding The Many Meins of Elle…..

Truth Denee, The Skin Shop Pixie

I have a certain attachment to the skin “Pixie” from The Skin Shop @ The Shops. Originally the face appeared with The Body Co release “Summer” and I wore this skin for a good period of time last year. Among my fellow Goreans, this face was least well received though: I received comments of it being “too real”, “not as attractive as the old Elle,” etc – and so on. Oddly enough, these comments largely came from my female counterparts in the genre. I think in Gor, the trend is idealized beauty: full lucious lips, youthful and dewy skin – more like a doll face than an actual human.  “Pixie” had it’s idealized elements but she is more authentic and approachable when I look at her.  This version of Elle looks like she would be a member of my family which might be a big reason for my attachment to this skin. Maybe subconciously when I look at this skin I see “me.”

The downsides to Pixie though keep me from using it for my everday skin:

  • Lack of lipstick options designed using Pixie’s mouth as a base.  When I use other Skin Shop lipsticks,  it changes the look of face too much for my liking
  • Lack of appliers for feet, hands and even boobies (I rarely wear mesh boobs though)

I am keeping my fingers crossed though that the above two downsides might be addressed eventually.

Truth Selma, Glance Anais attempt 2

“Anais” from Glance is simply sublime.  Touted by some as the best black skin on the grid, I really dig how it transforms my avatar into someone completely different from my RL self.  In many ways “Anais” helped me find a new joy in role play  and it was the first skin I photographed for this series.  What I find interesting is that when it comes to ethnic skins – realism seems to be much more of a desired feature than the idealized, airbrushed looks of white avatars I see running about.  Now if we can just get more “natural” hair on the grid, my SL will be complete!

Truth Lotus, League Isla

Next up is Elle in “Isla” from League featuring “Lotus” from Truth.  I have been a League girl since probably 2009 and don’t see that ending any time soon. I have consistently featured League skin over the years and Isla has been my ”go to skin” since the fall.   In this photo, I created a homage to not only to League and Truth hair, but also to my time spent as a Gorean Role-Player.  My three year anniversary as being a part of the role play community is coming up and I have enjoyed my experiences immensely.  Even though I seem to be moving away from Gor, I am not yet ready to say I have I left.

Okay, that’s all I go for now. So in the mean time, take care my friends and have a great second life!

My hot Lola's 2
Some say Lola’s are HAWT.  Some say Lola’s are the worst thing to hit the grid since viewer 2.  What I say when asked about Lola’s is I think they are both silly and fun.  I actually have me a a pair of zee Lola’s and pull out them once in a while when I am in a whimsical mood.  Whimsical, you might ask? YES, whimsical! In my opinion, Lola’s were not designed to be realistic – they are a cartoon, manga, anime version of boobs. Now whether or not the creator will agree with me is another thing, though, all together!  I mean, look at the nips on these puppies – they look like they are lifting their lips to sky singing their praises to the goddess of nipples!  Once on a gorean forums thread discussing zee Lolas IN DETAIL,  I called them “attacking nipples” and the description seemed to stick throughout the thread.
My hot Lola's 1
Speaking of SL Gor, zee Lola’s have a huge and very, very vocal fanbase there. In fact at times, I felt like when it comes to the gorean role play community, you can create a huge drama by merely joking about them (here and here). Some of you who have known me over the years will acknowledge at times I can be a bit outspoken – sometimes even to my detriment!  So when I and a fellow player (both of us largely slave character players too) pointed out how funny it was to see a free woman character displaying her nipples for all the world to see, you would think we had insulted her intelligence!  If you play the character as the book seems to communicate to me, the last thing a modest free woman would display so openly are her nipples!

For the record, I am fine with Lola’s – in fact I think they can be campy fun.   Although, I have hard time really taking these attachments seriously or consider them all that sexy. But as an accessory I think they have a lot of potential (in whatever way you see fit) and I say rock those Lola’s ladies….ROCK ON!

Work Work Work1
I can’t say today was in my top five of great days: Heard from an ex that did nothing but open a wound that was just starting to heal and attended the memorial service of a co-workers father.  The service was beautiful – unfortunately though it brought to surface some memories of my own parents’ funerals.

Work Work Work2

So what’s a girl to do? Well, maybe this: Go home, meditate and hold your foster kitties for about an hour and might just start believing there was a point to all this.  Sorry for the emo – but I hate to admit it but I have seen better days than what I had today.

Starlet 1
The other day I was talking to Xamirus aka Napoleon aka my partner extraordinaire about fashion blogging in second life. While showing him a few of my favorite sites, I couldn’t help but hear a whole lot of exasperated sighs on the other end of the line. “What is wrong?” I asked him. “Can’t you see it?” he exclaims. “These bloggers wear way too many layers. They have a jacket on top of a jacket on top of a sweater on top of a shirt on top of a pair of shorts over a pair of jeans and then about a billion accessories too.”  After several minutes of laughter, he ended his “assessment” by saying, “Come on now. You watch Project Runway – Michael Kors would be blasting these people for trying too hard!”

Yeah, he is probably right. If I walked around Austin in some of the outfits I feature in my SL blog, I would get a few raised eyebrows. But that’s the point of SL right? It’s not real, its fantasy and a pretty picture world of what you could be if you lived in computer. So to all you bloggers out there who throw away the reality in search of fantasy – I salute you.
Starlet 2
Okay about the outfit: Yeah, the look really has absolutely nothing to do with what I am talking about here, well kind of. It does have a lot of layers AND the photos have a 1950s movie feel to it.  It definitely is fantasy, minimal basic fantasy albeit. Plus I finally went to a gatcha festival for the first time in SLife. Woot and I have the manager of Tee*fy/LaViere to thank for that.  She was super nice to me one day when I asked about an old gatcha camera - she told me about the swap groups, the after the gatcha event sales places etc.  Now If only I could remember her name, *sigh*.  Any who that’s all I got today. So as the norm, take care my friends and have a great second life!

I shopped at Ann Taylor in SL 3Continuing on this Real Life/Second Life theme today, here is my take on Ann Taylor in Second Life.  For any of you not familiar with brand, Ann Taylor and The Loft by Ann Taylor, these speciality women’s stores are what I would classify as classic with a flair.  Along with great pieces for work, the stores also offer great accessories and some fabulous daytime to nighttime transition pieces.  The Ann Taylor store in particular also features cocktail/wedding attire that I really dig.
I shopped at Ann Taylor in SL 2
The one of the latest accessory pieces at The Loft are flower lapel pins.  Let me tell ya, I loved these in the early 2000s and I still love them now. In fact I saw one in the store very similar to this hair corsage from Tomoto.  Woot, label pins for the WIN!

Okay that’s all I got today, so take care my friends and have a great Second Life!

Ms. Lexington used to spend many an hour of SLife exploring sim, after sim, after sim, after sim. As a nerd girl, she wasn’t exactly getting a lot of bow chica bow bow offers obviously – she ain’t exactly a hot piece of ass, LOL. Because of this exploring was a way she would get rid of all those pent of frustrations she would have from time to time (Hey even nerd girls need some slovins’).  As from the previous post, Elle has decided to go full on retro by letting Lizzie Lexington post these days and art installs were definitely Lizzie’s thing; so to keep in the spirt of Lizzie’s TRIUMPHANT return to the blogosphere, a post on an art installation is definitely in order.

The Inevitability of Fate is a fabulous install by Rose Borchovski & Caer Balogh hosted at Rose’s sim, Two Fish. The story of the install tells the tale of Beth and Lot, mother and son – er maybe a daughter, separated by what appears to be the Holocaust. The install is both haunting and beautiful at the same time and extremely provocative in its sprit and presence. As you wander about the various components and vignettes, one cannot help but want to know more about Beth and Lot and how their lives would have been if they had escaped the war. But honestly, Lizzie should just shut-up and let the pictures do the talking. How about that? I say it sounds like a plan! So let’s take a look, shall we?

For the windlight settings, I chose to go with the recommended light design of the creators – Bryn Oh’s Immersive Grey Dust. For only one of the photos shadows were used.  I opted to exclude shadows because I believe that for the most part residents seem to not use shadows for average daily use.  I highly recommend spending an hour or so at least at the install which will allow the visitor plenty time to explore.  That’s all I got folks. So till next time, happy exploring and have a great second life!

My Name Is Lizzie 1
Once upon a time in a virtual world far, far away, there lived a nerd girl by the name of Lizzie Lexington. Not many remember her name these days or know anything about her past blog, but she still occupies a big space in her typist’s heart. Her blog was either loved or hated, her journeys and fashion sense a bit offbeat but at her core Lizzie was simply a story teller. While all the other bloggers took their time to impeccably style their pretty little avatars, Lizzie looked like a frumpy, hot mess that had no sense of color coordination what so ever. She spoke in third person for the most part and boy, did that bring about some negative reactions. At least once a month she would get at least one comment calling her blog creepy for her third person speak. But little did her typist know that this style was her actually her entry into the world of role play which ultimately added so much to her virtual life.

My Name is Lizzie Lexington 2
Yes, it was obvious, the girl was a bit of a drama queen at times and lacked a filter for her thoughts, but she really never meant to hurt anyone – well not too much LOL. From purposely poking at Tenshi Vielle of Shopping Cart Disco to talking a bit too much about a couple of the crazy women of the fashion world, Lizzie made a name for herself in second life fashion for a brief period of time for both her style and gossip sense. Her attempts of making light of second life dramas, the exaggerated stories and her efforts at caricaturing certain well-known figures in SL often came across in the wrong way to some readers and she got some real flack for it!  Really, most of her entries were meant to be a sarcastic essay on the ridiculousness of Second Life dramas, but more often than not, she was the only one who got the joke.  Oh my dear, dear readers (all three of you), I must admit Lizzie was her own best friend and her own worst enemy all at the same time.

Alas, those days are now gone and Lizzie is now merely a distant memory in a few people’s minds – but definitely not for her typist. Even though her typist shows a lot of self-restraint these days, parts of Lizzie still exist inside her. She was her typist’s muse and inspiration to look at Second Life from a different perspective. In all honesty, her typist misses Lizzie and longs for her quirkiness to be a part of her blog. So maybe, just maybe, she will bring Lizzie back to the blogosphere, albeit in much kinder and gentler form…well, perhaps LOL.
