The weather outside is frightful, etc, etc, etc.  I don’t get it. Why do they stop playing songs about snow after Christmas? I mean it still snows once the holiday season is done so why not sing about it! Anyway I digress. In RL, I live in Austin, TX which traditionally has great weather during the winter season. This is an exception though and it has been pretty damn cold! Overall though, winter accessories in Austin are generally just that – accessories that only had a little bit of something to an outfit without doing much function wise, LOL.

So when I put together today’s look, my first reaction was “Wow, I am quite the Austin hipster in this ensemble!”  Although, in my humble opinion, it has just enough whimsy though that I think I clearly tow the “hipster” line without crossing over it too far.  The reality is in my twenties I would have embraced hipster life with such a fury, there was no way I could not NOT be a hipster.  But now that I am um…old, I just…can’t, for so many reasons.

A Real Life Lizzie Lexington

I love it when I find real life references to my second life – whether it be a place also featured in SL or perhaps a fabulous outfit someone is wearing. Lately I have been thinking about my avatar Lizzie Lexington and how she was so unusual for her time. Imagine 2009, the blogs were filled with images of über Super models – tall, sometimes with ginormous breasts and all looking so cool and beautiful. Suddenly on the scene pops up this chubby, glasses wearing avatar with ill-fitting clothes. Boy did I think I was unique…back then!

Okay, I digress…back to real life and the point of the post. So I work in a multi-use complex – offices, apartments and shopping – and because of this I have all sorts of opportunities to people watch. Last Friday, I was taking a break with a co-worker outside the Starbucks and this girl passes by – a real life Lizzie Lexington in fact! After staring at her way too long and probably making her uncomfortable, LOL, a light bulb went off in my head: Why not emulate her outfit in SL!

With task in hand, I set out to style my avatar just like this real life Lizzie Lexington and, boy, was I relentless in getting this done.  So here it is my friends,  this fabulous outfit you see here is the result of my labor of love. Thank you real life Lizzie Lexington – wherever you are!

Quietly she stood in the procession line for the companionship ceremony for the Ubar and his new Ubara.  As a Display Slave her only role is to show her beauty among her Master’s caravan to help impress upon  those around him the power and the wealth he possesses.  Dressed in the finest silks and draped in gold and gems, she walks silently in the front of the procession doing her best to display her refinement and the impossible beauty of a slave girl of Gor, like no other.  She simply is a Display Slave…no more, no less.

*Outfit Note – I wore this outfit today from Deviance in a role play session in Fina and it is simply amazing.  The look is all prims and even though the skirt is a bit challenging to edit, the final result was well worth it.

Earth Night 042511Every Monday night I spend the evening with a group of long time earth friends in SL listening to electronic music and chit chatting.  Most of these folks I met as a noobie in 2007 and it really is a nice break for me.  Gor can be all consuming at times so Monday’s are my night to get away for a bit and spend some time on the virtual planet earth – well SL style that is.  Also I get the opportunity to put a cute little earth look together and last night’s look I found extremely charming.  So I thought for a change of pace I would share this look with you.  Okay that’s it for now – safe paths all and happy role playing.

So much has changed in the life of Lady Elizabeth over the past few weeks – abandonment by her intended, the return of her intended and then their quickly thrown together companionship ceremony – that a bit of time off was in order.  As a *cough* companionship present, Draconis agree to accompany her to the grand city of Ar not only for business dealings but a bit of personal shopping as well!  After a rocky journey, which included an almost complete loss of her caravan by some horrible mercenaries of Treve who let them go for a small fee after learning of their shop in Minus and an uncomfortable night in which Draconis chained Elizabeth to the bed whilst they obtained lodging in a Merchant’s compound along the journey, they finally arrived in GLORIOUS AR!

The time in Ar was simply wonderful – even Draconis seemed to be more relaxed as they spent hours walking among the cylinders and piazzas that graced the city and skyline of Ar.  In fact he only chained her once during the time they spent in Ar and after he purchased her a slave maid, whom Elizabeth named Dina, he no longer seemed to have the need to chain her at all!  One relatively uneventful day while they were out picking up a few things for their shop, Elizabeth began to notice a number of women who’s heads were adorned with fabulously ornate wigs! 

“Wigs!” Elizabeth squealed to Draconis in their hotel room that night “We must bring this trend to Minus – it will be the talk of the town!”  Draconis looked at her with annoyance and exasperation as she roamed about the room going on and on and on about the wigs that he viewed as the most ridiculous thing to adorn a woman since veils!  Draconis conceded for now in her relentless request for wigs but unknown to Elizabeth he had another idea in regards to her own personal use of these head adornments.  The next day, Elizabeth full of enthusisam not unlike that of an urt in a room full for cheese, she set out to locate the man who was credited with making the War of the Wigs a reality in Ar

It took a bit of time to locate the Wig Man as she called him.  Finally after some inquiries and exchange of coin she was successful and stood face to face to the man who held the key to these fabulous wigs:  Vylixan Fallon, a mysterious merchant of the Tahari region who seemed a bit to interested in the type of perfume Elizabeth was drawn too!  During tea and a series of unsettling negotiations with the merchant, which included the sampling of a mysterious perfume of the Cosian region that made Elizabeth a bit…flushed, and raised the eyebrows of both the Vylixan and his kettle slave for some reason, not only did Elizabeth procure a fabulous russet colored wig for herself, but she also formed a lucrative business contact in this mysterious, handsome man of the Tahari. 

For Elizabeth, the War of the Wigs came to a TRIUMPHANT END!

I glanced at the two women of the “strange men” on the lacquered platform.  They were looking at Cecily, but I saw no evidence of envy, hostility or jealousy.  This was quite different from the way in which the Gorean free woman would look upon a slave girl.  They see the slave as a vulnerable, but hated rival, with whom, with the interest of men, they could not compete.  These women, however, seemed to view Cecily more as one might view a lovely pet, doubtless of great interest to men but not really constituting a threat to themselves, and their position.  I would later learn that these were, indeed, “contract women,” who, as girls, were often sold to pleasure houses, most often by their parents.  Sometimes, too, they would sell themselves to such a house, to be trained in the arts of pleasure, for example, music, dancing, singing, conversation and such.  As their contracts could be bought and sold they were in effect, slaves, but they were not thought of such.  For example, they occupied an understood, accepted and generally respected niche in their society.  They were not tunicked, not branded, not collared, and so on.  They were not “collar-girls.”  Indeed they regarded themselves, without arrogance, and with much justification, as far superior to collar-girls.  They were in their view a different category all together. — Swordsmen of Gor, page 195

The latest book from John Norman, Swordsman of Gor, introduces the reader to a new Gorean culture known as the Pani people.  Largely based on Japanese culture, the Pani culture has introduced new and intriguing roles prime for Gorean role play.  One of these roles in particular that has received quite a bit of attention is referred to by Norman as ”Contract Women”.

Similar to the Japanese Geisha, the Contract Woman is somewhere between a Free Woman and a slave.  She is not collared nor owned but is described by Norman as a “trained, refined entertainer” whose services are paid for by their clients.  In other words, a geisha.  Controversial and provocative is the response thus far across the Gorums and blogs in regards to the “Contract Women” and the Pani people in general.  But with the love of Japanese culture amongst second life residents, I contend this is a role that will be popular and enriching for many a role player

The clothing style described in Swordsman also appears to be similar to that of the Japanese Geisha as well.  The primary wardrobe of the Contract Woman seems to be similar to a kimono and in anticipation of Pani RP, GSpot has recently released this gorgeous Pani Contract Woman look for this emerging trend in Gorean role play.  Further more, last weekend the City of Nara opened which is a sim devoted to Pani RP.  I have had a chance to visit the sim myself and I am very impressed with both the build and the spirit of the sim.  Hats off to Hayato Kenshi AKA Dillusion Resident, City of Nara sim owner, for jumping head first into this new mode of RP with elegance and grace – I wish you great success.

Panther/Huntress LOTD – Northern Forest Life

The Panthers of the Northern Forest living in or amongst the trees are not the snow bunnies you often see running around SL Gor.  It’s a much colder environment there and the use of bikini’s and barely-there bottoms would be a bit, um, impractical.

Think of Norway when you think of the Northern Forests and you will understand why I might dress this way when RPing in a Northern sim.  Torvaldsland is often the region that is referred to when discussing the Northern Forests and the life is cold and harsh.

Yes this look may be a bit progressive for BTB sims but in this girl’s eyes it fits my idea of the northern huntress to a tee.  Panther girl hear me RAWR!!
