On a permanent hiatus – perhaps

I have decide to shut down my personal blog for a variety of reasons.  Life is changing and Elle must change with it. I will still be out and about on the grid off and on and may be involved in blogging in other capacities, but for now this blog is on hiatus.  I thank anyone who has taken the time out during to the day to read my words.  And please, if you ever see me on the grid, give me a shout.

Oh..I am still going to be active on Flickr here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/lizzie_lexington/

Add me if you so desire!!

Cosmetics Fair – KOOQLA & Adored

Kooqla,-Adored,-Chelle,-Lelutka

My Second Life time is a bit sporadic for the past few months.  Because of this, I am usually a few days late the party when it comes to the latest and greatest fashion thing on the grid.  So when I heard about the Cosmetics Fair, my first response was “Really? Another event?”, LOL.  Regardless, I decided to check out the fair for myself. Honestly, it is right up my alley in terms of being able to customize Elle to look a bit different from the pack.  My dread though was dealing with the norm for Second Life events these days:  too many vendors crammed into a space that is hard to navigate.  My preference is obviously for more boutique events like Collabor88 and I am not sure why I even bother with the large ones like hair fair, but in the end I was pleasantly surprised.  The size of the event was just right and the layout was very simple.

First on my agenda was to find the Adored Bodyshop booth. I have been following Constance Daehli (sp?) for some time now on Flickr and have been fascinated in the past by her avatar shapes and photos and noticed lately her posts for her cosmetics.   I was sidetracked though momentarily when I saw that KOOQLA also had a booth there as well.  I completely fell in love with her “Bisquit” skin and at first glance, the new skin “Domino” didn’t seem that different.  I ended up accidentally buying the skin thinking it was the demo, LOL, and I am glad I did.  I have to say at first glance the look is similar to “Bisquit” primarily because of the lips, but I did see some marked improvements in the nose and the skin tone on the face.  Although, like Bisquit, this skin may not be for everybody due to what I see as the creators intent to create a more artistic skin vs. a more realistic one.  For me personally, this skin fits just right!  Thank goodness this purchase had a happy ending.

Paired with the skin is one of the two purchases I made from Adored Bodyshop.  The words that come to mind when describing the “Sleepy Shadows” eyeshadow is lush, intriguing and rich.  The rest of the Adored Bodyshop line seems to primarily be on Marketplace and I have already been perusing her store as well, woot!

Okay, that’s all I got for today. Don’t forget to check out the Cosmetics Fair which will be going on through the end of the month.  So until next time my friends – Be good and have a great Second Life!

Fancy Collabor88

Fancy-Collabor88-4

Cedar Fever has hit Austin like I have never experienced before and I am seriously not happy, LOL. Because of that I don’t have a lot to say except this:  I really enjoy how I moved into this place with my blog where I don’t feel the need any longer to have a certain image or create a recognizable character.  One day I might feel like being a blond, the next a redhead.  One week I might feel like creating an avatar of a completely different race or maybe even a different species. I have had three primary avatars in Second Life:  Elizabeth the fashionista, Lizzie the nerd and Elle the Role Player.  Right now I think I am a little bit of all three, depending on how I feel that day.  That is the beauty of Second Life – you can pretend to be whomever you want to be for what ever reason!

Wow, that was not what I wanted to talk about at all, LOL.  Any who about my outfit.  I felt like being Fancy Elle today and of course, Collabor88 had all sorts of goodies for me to use to complete this ensemble.  Everything you see here you can find at the latest round, besides the skin and hair, and I really felt like a Princess in this look.

Last, Lastly I am still in love with this Bisquit skin from Kooqla so I thought I would share one more pic of my big old mug all over your screen.  It really is a gorgeous skin and I feel like Princess Scarlett Johansson when I wear it, woot!

Anyway that’s all I have for today.  So in closing, be good my friends and have a great Second Life!

It’s Just a Fantasy….Collabor88 (and a bit of a rant)

Fantasy-Collabor88-(blue)

Yup, another Collabor88 Post.  I have drunk the koolaid and liked it very, very much. Honestly though it could have been spiked with something like vodka or rum and it would have been even better. Not Everclear though, I HATE Everclear.  Soon after I moved to Austin, a few friends took me to this restaurant called Baby Acapulco’s and all of the drinks are made with…you guessed…Everclear.  My friends who like to imbibe in this liquor claim they can’t taste it but I sure can.  To me, Everclear is the worst tasting crap to invade my frozen drinkie poos since I dunno when.  Anyway I digress…I am supposed to be talking about Collabor88 and instead I am talking about liquor!

So back to the topic.  I have had this idea about trying to find a fantasy sim to start rping in. Not just any fantasy sim mind you, but more one inspired by such genres as Dungeons & Dragons or Lord of the Rings with an edge though mind you!  I love the idea of playing some beautiful mystical creature like an Elf or Fae surrounded by sparkles and sunshine.  Well, not really sparkles and sunshine because to be honest I like a bit of dark in my RP.  Not necessarily sexual (well, maybe now and then, LOL), more like a strong contrast between good and evil – no Disney elves for me…no siree Bob!  Gor is total yawn for me these days, plus I think I am a bit annoyed with my fellow players believing my character IS who I am.  How many times does one need to say “I am not a slave in RL….I am not a sub in RL” before they actually believe me!  Now there is nothing wrong with being Sub in RL if that makes you happy.  I mean I occasionally would fall into that category – that is, if I feel like it LOL. Which I guess in reality makes me NOT a sub!  But slave? Come on…..get real people. If you were REALLY a slave would you be online playing in some virtual reality game? I think not!  Who the hell finds being  a slave joyous anyway. I would say go have a conversation with the thousands of women around the world who have ACTUALLY been sold into sexual servitude and I think you will know the difference.

Boy that was a rant, huh? Let’s change the subject then and talk about my outfit, shall we? Today’s look includes two items from the current round of Collabor88:  The lovely dress from Junebug and the gorgeous hair from Clawtooth paired with the fantastical skin from Kooqla (which you can’t see very well) and the elf ears from SLink.  Oh my, I make a beautiful elf don’t I? LOL.  Okay, that’s all I got today folks.  Till next time…be good and have a great Second Life.

Why I Love Collabor88 and Musings on My Past Writings

Jan-Collabor88-011114
My absolutely favorite event on the grid these days is Collabor88.  Why you might ask (that is if you actually care what I think these days)? Welp,  a lot of it has to do with my second life beginnings.  My love of fashion began in the California desert version of Tableau back in 2007. It was on that sim that I discovered such stores as Fashionably Dead, Nylon Outfitters, Yummy and the designs of Ingrid Ingersole, both her shoes and her furnishings (sadly it appears Ingrid has retired from design).  Along with the Tableau group and Tres Blah, my avatar came to life.   This period of my Second Life was all about discovery including this virtual world that merge so many different cultures and nationalities into one and about myself as a person.  Furthermore, one could say my avatar known as Lizzie Lexington was birthed on Tableau (New Orleans version) and I still at look at her and my old blog inspired by her with much fondness.  Even though technically I have taken down her official blog, I parked her words on a free wordpress blog that I visit from time to time.   In fact, I received a request to approve a comment (probably spam) that prompted me back to her blog this morning.  The post in question was my ponderings regarding my brief time (a whopping one month) as a Second Life Escort and, wow, could I write back then.  It makes me wonder why I stopped writing like I did.  I mean, there are so many bloggers on the feeds today; and more often than not, most of the bloggers are fairly wordless, LOL.  Why shouldn’t I try to differentiate myself from the pack?

Jan-Collabor88-011114-2

Any who, I digress.  The whole point of this post was to rave about Collabor88 and wonderful of an event it is; not to be all self-absorbed and talk about my time in the limelight of Second Life fashion, LOL. Sure, it gets its fair share of detractors for a variety of reasons. But for me, personally, it is something I look forward too every month in Second Life.  Many of the stores that take part in the event I have been following for years, including the Tableauians (Nylon Outfitters, Fashionably Dead, Yummy, Lamb and Clawtooth), Tres Blah, BOOM, Milk Motion and now Maitreya.  And now they are all in one convenient place for me to shop till my heart’s content.  The event has also introduced me to some new faves as well, including Ison, Tee*fy, Diva and Marukin.  These stores seem to have in common is certain understated, easy style that I am attracted too and are a bunch of hell of a great designers to boot!

Oh and about today’s look:  It is a little bit of this and a little bit of that from the event and is very Lizzie Lexington inspired.  Also, If you are curious about Lizzie and her old blog I suggest checking out my Second Life Escort article here.  Hopefully I will find the inspiration to write how she did (well me but under the guise of Lizzie) back then – sooner rather than later.

The Artist and My Avatar – Bisquit by Kooqla

Kooqla-Bisquit2
I discovered the store Kooqla at the United Designers event earlier this fall and “Bisquit”, the latest release from Kooqla is truly a living piece of art.  Reminiscent of the brand &Bean that was a fave of mine in 2009ish time frame, primarily because of the lip shape and what appears to be the predominance of hand drawn features.   Surreal, romantic and Painterly are the words that pop into my head when describing this release.  Imagine a woman from a painting by say Vermeer or Renoir decided to step out from the canvas into modern-day Second Life – this would be “Bisquit.”

Kooqla-Bisquit

When looking for a downside to the skin I only come up with two possibilities:  1.  This is not a  completely “realistic” skin so it may not be stylistically appealing to all, and 2.  Bisquit does have a slight ashy tone to it as well.  The second issue though, I believe can be overlooked when you focus on what I interpret as the intent of the skin designer; that is to create a skin that in its essence that is much more fantasy/painterly in style,  with obvious brushstrokes and points of uneven/unrealistic skin tones than more mainstream skins.  Bisquit is definitely not an every woman skin which is one of the main reasons I was drawn to it so strongly .

So if the day comes for you when you feel the need to be  a “living work of art” on the grid, give Kooqla a try.

Through the Eyes of My Avatar – Noble, New England

I have been lurking about the Second Life Destinations page for ideas of what sims to cover.  There are so many lovely places to feature and I am trying my best to not be a copy catter and cover those by the Uber Sim bloggers, Ziki Questi and Honour McMillian.  But until I get a feel for what is out there after my reclusiveness over the last few years, I will need to rely on these Masters for ideas!  Because of this the Second Life Destination Guide has become my very best friend!

One of the spots that caught my eye was The Noble Story found in the destinations guide here and described as follows:

This island was born out of a love and passion for tale tellers and those who love stories. One of the most known tales of several generations are the tales of Peter Rabbit and many more, written by Beatrix Potter.

So off I went on my hunt for Peter Rabbit.  Instead though, when I landed at the skybox and made my way down to the main sim, what I found instead was a picturesque sim now called (Noble) New England. I am not sure if the creators changed direction in the sim design, but either way the place is gorgeous.

There are various little spots and hidden areas in the sim and I had to cheat a little by choosing “fly override” to find my way to some. The effort was worth it and the act of flying did not spoil my immersion one bit.

Lark “Black Tie Affair” For Acid Lily Gallery (and another look at Birdy Jordan)

Lark-Black-Tie-Affair-for-Acid-Lily

Two Beauties in this post today:  ”Black Tie Affai”r from Lark for Acid Lily Gallery and Birdy Jordan in Toffee.  Acid Lily is a bi weekly sales event in Second Life; and along with this piece from Lark also featured in this round are the likes of Rachel Breaker, Even Flow and Bokeh.  Also featured in this photo is the latest sublime release from Maitreya – the Poise Dress in Black – and it is total Amazeballs!

But let’s talk about “Jordan” one last time before I shut up for the day.  I cannot get over how gorgeous this face is,  in fact it reminds me a bit of Michonne from Walking Dead.  And for those of you who follow my blog will remember my Michonne post last summer in which I discussed the literary concepts of Romantic Racism and the Magical Negro.  Oddly enough, this post got the attention of an up and coming writer and we corresponded a bit lately by email.  Something he brought to my attention that I haven’t really thought about is the lack of non-white ethnic characters as leading roles in Speculative Fiction (Fantasy, Sci Fi, Super Hero etc).  It is interesting to think about and ponder upon, particular for us nerds who totally dig that stuff, LOL.

Any who, enough Deep Thoughts for now. Be sure and check out Acid Lily soon for all the grand offerings during this round.

Through the Eyes of My Avatar – The Looking Glass

The-Looking-Glass-5

The Looking Glass, a sim co-owned and designed by Marcus Inkpen and Sharni Azalee, is more than just a store or a pretty place for pictures.  In reading about the sim in the land description, the goal of the owners appears to be to create a community devoted to live music, poetry readings and particle shows along with an art gallery and shop for home and garden items.

The-Looking-Glass-2

From a quaint village area to the overlooking castle that houses the gallery to a magical fairyland, the sim offers a wide array of locations and hidden corners for photographs or to just relax and enjoy the scenery.

I really didn’t explore the lower magic forest area of the sim this time through, but I am dying to go back.  From a distance it was simply breathtaking and made me want to don some fairy wings STAT!

And to keep my blog fashiony - here is the picture of my outfit, LOL. I am looking quite like a modern, boho, geeky girl Arica Storaro in this shot for some reason! Oh and don’t forget to check out her blog, The Blogging Elf, she does a lot more than I do these days when it comes to role play fashion!

Any who, I digress: So the next time you decide to troll about the grid looking for new sims to check out, make sure and put The Looking Glass on your spots to visit list. You won’t be disappointed!

Through The Eyes of My Avatar – Winter Moon

Winter-Moon-1

There are many, many winter sim styled sims that have made their debut since Thanksgiving.  And seeing how I live in area of the US that rarely gets any sort of noteworthy snowfall, I really enjoy exploring these venues.  One of my favorites that I have come across is the sim Winter Moon.  Unfortunately, I do not know a lot about the background of the sim but it is a place I highly recommend checking out.

Winter-Moon-2

The sim itself is a forested beach setting, probably similar to the US Pacific Northwest or British Columbia or maybe somewhere along the East Coast of the US.  The bulk of the sim, though, is the forested areas and offers several small spots for quiet time or photos.

Winter-Moon-5

The Beach area is also interesting. A combination of typical public beach decor, including this lifeguard stand featured in this photo, and a few whimsical details such as the Adirondack chairs in the lower right that would be more common in a private beach area. I really felt like I was sitting on some rustic beach somewhere drinking hot chocolate!

Winter-Moon-2

Speaking of hot chocolate – I spent quite a bit of time sitting in this area chatting in IMs and camming about.  If this scene was in a RL picture I would wonder why the hell someone would want to ruin a perfectly good couch!  But, of course, in Second Life we don’t have to worry about such things. LOL
