My absolutely favorite event on the grid these days is Collabor88. Why you might ask (that is if you actually care what I think these days)? Welp, a lot of it has to do with my second life beginnings. My love of fashion began in the California desert version of Tableau back in 2007. It was on that sim that I discovered such stores as Fashionably Dead, Nylon Outfitters, Yummy and the designs of Ingrid Ingersole, both her shoes and her furnishings (sadly it appears Ingrid has retired from design). Along with the Tableau group and Tres Blah, my avatar came to life. This period of my Second Life was all about discovery including this virtual world that merge so many different cultures and nationalities into one and about myself as a person. Furthermore, one could say my avatar known as Lizzie Lexington was birthed on Tableau (New Orleans version) and I still at look at her and my old blog inspired by her with much fondness. Even though technically I have taken down her official blog, I parked her words on a free wordpress blog that I visit from time to time. In fact, I received a request to approve a comment (probably spam) that prompted me back to her blog this morning. The post in question was my ponderings regarding my brief time (a whopping one month) as a Second Life Escort and, wow, could I write back then. It makes me wonder why I stopped writing like I did. I mean, there are so many bloggers on the feeds today; and more often than not, most of the bloggers are fairly wordless, LOL. Why shouldn’t I try to differentiate myself from the pack?
Any who, I digress. The whole point of this post was to rave about Collabor88 and wonderful of an event it is; not to be all self-absorbed and talk about my time in the limelight of Second Life fashion, LOL. Sure, it gets its fair share of detractors for a variety of reasons. But for me, personally, it is something I look forward too every month in Second Life. Many of the stores that take part in the event I have been following for years, including the Tableauians (Nylon Outfitters, Fashionably Dead, Yummy, Lamb and Clawtooth), Tres Blah, BOOM, Milk Motion and now Maitreya. And now they are all in one convenient place for me to shop till my heart’s content. The event has also introduced me to some new faves as well, including Ison, Tee*fy, Diva and Marukin. These stores seem to have in common is certain understated, easy style that I am attracted too and are a bunch of hell of a great designers to boot!
Oh and about today’s look: It is a little bit of this and a little bit of that from the event and is very Lizzie Lexington inspired. Also, If you are curious about Lizzie and her old blog I suggest checking out my Second Life Escort article here. Hopefully I will find the inspiration to write how she did (well me but under the guise of Lizzie) back then – sooner rather than later.
